Falcons Blanked by No. 37 Nebraska, 7-0


    The Air Force women's tennis team had its three-match winning streak halted Friday by No. 37 Nebraska, 7-0, at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. NU improved its home non-conference winning streak to 66 matches and moved to 3-0 this season, while the Falcons fell to 3-4.

    The Huskers got off on a good note with Ewelina Skaza and Imke Reimers, who are ranked No. 7 regionally, defeating the No. 8 regionally ranked tandem of Kat Bushey and Christine Abayan, 8-1. At the No. 2 spot, Milena Schulz-Gartner and Kim Hartmann clinched the doubles point for the Huskers by defeating Lauren Wilson and Meghan Kiser, 8-4.

    Hartmann, ranked No. 36 in the country in singles, kept the momentum going for Nebraska as she beat Bushey, 6-1, 6-1, at the top singles spot. Reimers turned in a dominating performance at the No. 3 singles, blanking Wilson, 6-0, 6-0, for her second straight shutout. Sophomore Erika Shortridge posted the best result for Air Force in singles, dropping a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Pamela Castillejos at the No. 5 spot.

    Air Force returns to the courts Saturday, Feb. 4, when it faces Drake at the Woods Tennis Center.
