Falcons Play Three Home Matches This Weekend

The Air Force women's tennis team plays its first home matches of the 2006 season this weekend at the Academy. The Falcons (0-3) will host Northern Arizona (9 a.m.) and South Dakota State (1 p.m.) on Saturday, Jan. 28, then face Northern Colorado at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Air Force opened the season against three nationally ranked opponents away from home. A season-opening 7-0 loss at 55th-ranked Colorado was highlighted by a victory at No. 1 doubles by senior Kat Bushey and freshman Christine Abayan, the 8th-ranked doubles team in the Central Region.

Last weekend, the Falcons fell to No. 49 Virginia Commonwealth and No. 20 William & Mary, both by a 7-0 score. Abayan was the only Falcon player to stretch a match to three sets, taking William & Mary's No. 2 player, Megan Muth, to a 6-2, 4-6, 10-2 decision.

Air Force head coach Kim Gidley needs two victories to become the first to reach 100 wins in the history of the women's tennis program.
