The William and Mary's women's tennis team, ranked 20th in the nation, swept the three doubles and six singlesmatches to defeat the Air Force Academy, 7-0, this afternoon at the Tribe's McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The match was the Tribe's first of the 2006 season. The Falcons drop to 0-3 this year.W&M quickly took a 1-0 lead in the match by taking all three doubles matches. Megan Muth and Alex de Guzman finished first, defeating Meghan Kiser and Kelly Morgan, 8-2, at No. 3. Emmy Fritz-Krockow and Barbara Zidek clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 win on court two over Erika Shortridge and Lauren Wilson. Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the top match over Kat Bushey and Christine Abayan.The Tribe finished the shutout by winning all six singles matches, including five straight-set victories. Zoricic, ranked 50th in the nation in singles, put the Green and Gold ahead 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Wilson. Lauren Cash defeated Shortridge, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 to put the College one point away from the win, which was clinched with a 6-2, 6-1 win by Lingda Yang over Morgan at No. 6. Moulton-Levy, ranked 11th in the nation, beat Bushey, 6-0, 6-3, in the top singles match, just before Klaudyna Kasztelaniec beat Kiser at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. Muth ended the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2) win at No. 2 over Abayan.Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when the Falcons play two home matches, opening against Northern Arizona at 9 a.m., then South Dakota at 1 p.m.
