The Air Force women’s tennis team opens its 2014 spring schedule with a doubleheader against Seattle University on Saturday, Jan. 18. The two teams will play at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. (PT) at The Tennis Center at Sand Point in Seattle, Wash.
The Falcons went 4-0 in dual matches last fall and participated in four tournaments, including their own USAFA Invitational. Juniors Natasha Rizvi and Marcelli Magday captured two doubles titles during the fall, winning the top bracket at the Navy Invitational and the Matador Invitational hosted by Cal-State Northridge. Rizvi and Magday enter the spring campaign ranked 10th in the Mountain Region after posting a 14-2 record in the fall.
In singles, junior Tiffany Tran led the team with 12 wins during the fall season, while Magday and freshman Chloe Forlini each had 11. Freshman Tracy Landram posted the team’s best winning percentage with a 10-1 record. Landram and senior Anastasia Hueffner each won her flight at the Matador Invitational.
Head coach Kim Gidley, in her 16th season at Air Force, is looking for her 200th career victory this weekend. She enters the spring season with a career dual match record of 199-206, by far the winningest coach in program history.
