SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Falcon women’s tennis squad concluded the Aztec Invitational and its final action of the fall season on a high note, earning multiple wins and place-winning finishes.
TJ Fumagalli and Elizabeth Barnickel posted a third place finish in doubles action with a win over Torres and Chow of San Diego University, 6-3. In their final match of the event, freshmen duo Meredith Jones and Clarissa Jolley posted a 6-3 win over Boyden and Williams of Cal Poly.
Jones, who competed in the finals match of the Green Bracket, registered a runner-up finish against Cal Poly’s Molly Reed, 7-5, 6-1. Barnickel won the back side of her bracket with a victory in straights sets, 6-1, 7-5, over Magda Aubets of SDSU. Fumagalli earned a victory in two in her final match of the day against Maria Media of Liberty University, 6-2, 6-2.
“Every day we stay at sea level, the team gets better,” said heads coach Kim Gidley. “This was our best day of the tournament. This was a strong tournament and a good way to end the fall.”
The Falcons will continue the 2018 dual slate in the spring.
