The Air Force women's tennis team swept Cornell University in doubles action Sunday on the final day of the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. The Falcons also played Syracuse and senior Sarah Cassman pulled out the lone AFA victory.
In the morning doubles matches, the Falcons won all three matches against Cornell, which had won four of five singles matches against Air Force on Friday. Junior Tahlia Smoke and sophomore Melissa Cecil led off with an 8-4 victory over Shannon and Kelly Comolli, while senior Christen Monreal and freshman Tasha Hueffner snuck past Ryann Young and Christine Ordway, 9-8 (4). Cassman and junior Megumi Voight completed the sweep with an 8-6 triumph over Sarah O'Neil and Sinzy Chis.
In singles action, Cassman won a straight set match over Simone Kalhom of Syracuse, 6-4, 6-4. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Syracuse won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The tournament wrapped up the fall season for Air Force, which opens the spring campaign on Friday, Jan. 21 with a home doubleheader against Colorado College and the University of Colorado.
