Rizvi and Magday Claim Doubles Title at CSUN Invite

    Air Force juniors Natasha Rizvi and Marcelli Magday captured their second doubles title of the season Saturday by winning the top flight at the 2013 Matador Women’s Tennis Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge. Rizvi and Magday, who also won the top flight at the Navy Invitational, defeatedLeora Hemmerich and Sydney Postal of Cal State Los Angeles, 9-8, in the final.

    In other doubles action, junior Tiffany Tran and sophomore Mary Meyers will play in the “B” flight final on Sunday against Laurence Pelchat and Sasha Carter of Montana. Tran and Meyers defeated Montana’s Ashley Mackey and Maddy Murray, 9-7, in Saturday’s semifinals. Senior Anastasia Hueffner and freshman Jocelle Rudico placed fifth in the “C” flight.

    In singles, freshman Tracy Landram will play in the finals of the “C” flight, while Hueffner and freshman Lily Forlini will battle each other for the “D” flight title. Tran placed fifth in the “A” flight, whileMagday will play in the “B” flight semis on Sunday.

    “What a great day for our team,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. “We battled hard today in both singles and doubles. Marcelli and Natasha have had some really strong and consistent doubles wins and have set themselves up for a regional ranking a shot at a national ranking.”
