Falcons Complete Day One at Panther Invitational

    The Air Force women's tennis team posted an impressive 6-2 record Friday on the first day of the 2012 Florida International End of Fall Invitational Friday in Miami, Fla. The Falcons went 4-2 in singles and a perfect 2-0 in doubles.

    Senior Christine Molina won her first-round match in the #1 draw with a 7-6(3), 7-5 victory over Margarita Sadovnikova of Youngstown State to advance to the semifinals. Fellow senior Hannah Dake followed suit in the #2 draw, defeating Giuletta Boha of Florida International, 7-5, 6-4 and will play in the semis of that bracket on Saturday.

    Both Falcons in the #3 draw won handily on Friday as junior Anastasia Hueffner beat Carolyn Jesko of Youngstown State, 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Natasha Rizvi defeated Gimena Puppo of Youngstown State, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Marcelli Magday and freshman Mary Meyers each received a bye in the first round of the #4 draw and will play on Saturday.

    In doubles action, Dake and fellow senior Melissa Cecil won their first-round match of the top draw, 8-4, over Courtney Wild and Bethany Moore of Ball State, as did Molina and Rizvi, 8-3, over Jesko and Annina Brendel of Youngstown State. Both teams are in the semis on Saturday. AFA's other two doubles teams, Meyers and sophomore Tiffany Tran and Hueffner and Magday, received a bye and will play in the semis of the #2 draw on Saturday.
