Falcons Complete Day One at FSU Invitational
Oct. 31, 2008
The Air Force women's tennis team completed the first day of the 2008 Florida State Invitational Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. Freshman Tahlia Smoke and junior Erlyn Rudico each posted a singles victory on a day that saw several of the Falcons play nationally ranked opponents. Smoke rallied to defeat Alyona Tsutskova of Florida International, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of her flight, then fell in the semifinals to Jessica Wente of Florida State, 6-2, 6-2. Rudico, meanwhile, won her round robin singles match against Mimi Songsermsawas of Oregon, 7-5, 6-3. She lost her other match on Friday to Maria Delores Pazo of Florida International, 6-3, 6-4. "Tahlia really battled today in a high intensity match," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "I have never been happier to see a person win a match and Erlyn had one of her best days of the fall in singles." The Falcons will continue the tournament on Saturday.
