Falcon Freshmen Play Well at UNM Invite

    Several of the Air Force women's tennis players played well Saturday at the UNM Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshmen Sarah Cassman, Christen Monreal and Katrina Eromin each won a singles match in the consolation round.

    Cassman defeated Harmonie Chatagner of UTEP, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the consolation final of flight B and will face Natalie Kirch of Idaho on Sunday. Eromin also won a match in the flight B consolation round, rallying from a set down to beat Alex Rios of New Mexico State, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. Monreal, meanwhile, won a match in the flight A consolation round over Jana Siwa of Idaho, 6-2, 6-0.

    In doubles, Monreal and Cassman beat Rios and Brenda Bongetta of New Mexico State, 8-3, then fell in the consolation final of flight B to Yumi Hasegawa and Stacey Pinchbeck of Northern Arizona, 8-6. Eromin teamed with senior Erika Shortridge to defeat Rios and Bongetta, 8-3, in the consolation round.

    The tournament ends on Sunday.
