Falcons Post Mixed Results at UNM Invitational

    Three members of the Air Force women's tennis team continued play at the UNM Invitational Friday in Albuquerque, N.M. Sophomore Samantha Sarkis and freshman Allie Chermel each split a pair of singles matches and paired to win a doubles match on Friday.

    The Falcon duo defeated Martina Trierweiler and Carla Murguia of UTEP, 8-2, after dropping their first match of the tournament, 8-1, on Thursday to Emma Hayman and Anya Villanueva-Forte of New Mexico Thursday evening.

    In singles play, Chermel lost her first match in the "B" flight, 6-4, 6-3, to Manumea Durie of New Mexico, then beat Izelle Olivier of Western New Mexico, 6-0, 6-1. Sarkis, playing in the "C" flight, defeated Regan Newman of Northern Arizona, 6-4, 6-4, before falling to Kaitlyn Ritchie of Missouri, 6-1, 6-2.

    Sophomore Katrina Eromin, who received a bye in the first round of the "A" flight, lost her second-round match to Trierweiler, 6-3, 7-5.

    The tournament continues on Saturday.
