Cassman and Smoke Perfect on Day Two of FIU Invitational

Senior Sarah Cassman and junior Tahlia Smoke combined to go a perfect 5-0 on day two of the 2010 Panther Women's Tennis Invitational in Miami, Fla. Cassman won both of her doubles matches with junior Megumi Voight and won her singles match, while Smoke won a singles and doubles match on Saturday.
The Falcons opened the day playing singles against Florida Atlantic. Smoke won the No. 2 match over Natasha Basma, 6-2, 6-3, while Cassman won at No. 4, defeating Cassie Bergeson, 7-6, 6-2. Freshman Anastasia Hueffner also won in singles, rallying to beat Marlene Ryan, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5. With sophomore Melissa Cecil sitting out the singles match, Air Force won three of the five matches that were played.
Cecil also sat out the first doubles matches of the day against Barry University and the teams split the two matches. Cassman and Voight won the No. 3 match, 8-6, over Akemi Maehema and Lizbeth Vargas, while Heuffner and senior Christen Monreal barely lost the No. 2 match to Caroline Wendling and Julie Stas, 9-8 (7-1).
The Falcons then took two of three doubles matches against Florida International. Smoke and Cecil won the No. 1 match in dramatic fashion, defeating Liset Brito and Maria Spencely, 9-7, while Cassman and Voight again won at No. 3, handling Magali Holt and Rita Maisak, 8-2. With those wins, each team was perfect during the weekend.
Air Force completes the tournament on Sunday by facing Barry University on singles at 9:30 a.m.
