Melissa Cecil and Christina Molina each posted a victory in singles and doubles on Wednesday.
Cecil rallied to win her first-round singles match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 over Kristen Eggleston of New Mexico. Cecil trailed 3-0 in the second set, but won 12 of the last 13 games to advance to the second round against Ashley Mackey of Montana. Cecil then paired with fellow senior Hannah Dake to defeat Natalie Heffron and Abby Stevens of Colorado State, 8-1, in the first round.
Meanwhile, Molina cruised through her first-round singles match, downing Marian Tangarife of Idaho State, 6-3, 6-1. She will face New Mexico's Nittaya Bezdickova on Thursday in the second round. Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi then blanked Kaley Schultz and Kendall Heitzner of Colorado State, 8-0, in the doubles first round.
Also in singles play on Wednesday sophomore Tiffany Tran advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Iva Para Punova of Montana State, while freshman Mary Meyers also won her first round match, 6-1, 6-1, over Thais Kurer of Weber State.
"I was especially pleased with the fight in our singles today," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "Melissa (Cecil) had a great comeback and we won a couple of easy matches. In doubles, playing under the lights, our teams came out on fire, losing only one game against a rival from Colorado State and winning another match 8-0."
