The Air Force women's team posted a very successful second day of its own 2012 USAFA Invitational Saturday on another cold and blustery day at the Academy. With all the matches played on four indoor courts, AFA's four doubles teams were 6-1 on the day and the duo of sophomore Tiffany Tran and Mary Meyers completed a perfect weekend by winning the "Charlie" flight title.

Tran and Meyers opened the day with an 8-5 victory over Charlotte Koning and Lize Leenknecht of Washington State in the semis, then downed Carla Manzi and Erin Sanders of Colorado, 8-5, in the finals. Tran and Meyers improved to 8-2 this fall with their four wins this weekend. Senior Christine Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi also won two matches on Saturday and won the consolation side of the "Bravo" flight with an 8-4 triumph over Winde Janssens and Ashley Tiefel of Colorado.

The Falcons top doubles team of seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake took an 8-3 decision from Julyette Steur and Mazy Watrous of Colorado in the semis of the "Alpha" flight, but fell in the finals to Nikki Sanders and Elizabeth Ullathorne of Texas Tech, 8-3. Cecil and Dake are now 10-2 this fall.

One round of singles was completed on Saturday, with AFA's Marcelli Magday posting the team's lone victory. She defeated Taylor Schumacher of Northern Colorado, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the "Golf" flight and will play Matti Sperry of Colorado in the semis on Sunday. Tran, Meyers and Rizvi all dropped straight-set decisions on Saturday.

Play is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. Sunday with the singles main draw semifinals.
