Falcons Complete Day One at USAFA Invitational
Oct. 5, 2006
The Air Force women's tennis opened play at its own USAFA Invitational Thursday afternoon by winning one of its four doubles matches. Senior captain Kelly Morgan and Christine Abayan captured the victory by downing Catherine Duboc and Shayna Miller of Cornell, 8-4, in the first round of the top doubles flight.
Morgan and Abayan will move into the winners' round-robin bracket along with Rachel Sackmaster and Julia Bauregger of Denver and Emily Kirchem and Hilary Tyler of Colorado State. The fourth team in the bracket will be announced after a 9 a.m. match on Friday morning between Melisa Esposito and Franziska Jendrian of Colorado and Susan McClelland and Katie Schurr of Northern Arizona. Morgan and Abayan will play the winner of that match at 10:15 a.m. on Friday.
Junior Erika Shortridge and freshman Jennifer Walters play their first match in flight 4 on Friday at 9 a.m. against Veera Nurmi and Christina Macey of Colorado.
Two rounds of doubles and two rounds of singles will be played on Friday at the Academy's outdoor tennis courts.
