Los Angeles, Calif. – TJ Fumagalli and Elizabeth Barnickel concluded the first day of action at the Riviera All-American, Saturday afternoon, at the Upper Courts of Pepperdine University.
In singles action, Fumagalli took on No. 9-16 seed Kelly Chen of Duke University, falling to Chen, 6-3, 6-4. In doubles actions, Fumagalli and Barnickel met with Pepperdine’s Gulbe and Milovanovic, dropping the match, 8-4.
“They came out strong in the doubles and had opportunities to be up, 5-0,” explained head coach Kim Gidley. “The big points proved to make the difference.”
“In singles, TJ had her work cut out for her,” Gidley continued. “This is a great opportunity for us to see what the best players in the country do to be successful.”
The pair will compete in the consolation rounds tomorrow morning, beginning with doubles action at 10:00 a.m., followed by singles action with Fumagalli taking on a single from Mississippi State.
