Falcons Complete Day Two at Jayhawk Invitational

Sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Tahlia Smoke advanced to the consolation final of their singles brackets Saturday on the second day of the Jayhawk Women's Tennis Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Monreal defeated Katka Kudlackova, 6-3, 7-5, to advance to the final of the consolation bracket in the "Jayhawk" flight, while Smoke downed Tina Ojdaic of Arkansas State, 6-0, 6-1, to reach to consolation final of the "Blue" flight. In doubles action, Monreal paired with freshman Allie Chermel split a pair of matches, as did freshmen Shannon Young and Joanna Pattugalan. Monreal and Chermel defeated Jenny Herring and Paula Chelminska of Arkansas State, 8-4, before falling to Erin Karonis and Maria Fernanda Macedo of Iowa State, 8-3. Meanwhile, Young and Pattugalan beat Holly Davis and Caitlin Burke of UMKC, 8-2. The Falcons duo then lost to Allie Dzuba and Kate Goff of Kansas, 8-3. The Falcons conclude the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 28.
