Air Force juniors Natasha Rizvi and Marcelli Magday captured the title in the top doubles flight Sunday at the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational hosted by the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The Falcon duo defeated Navy's team of Erin Snook and Katie Porter, 8-2, in the final for their fourth straight win of the weekend.
In singles play, Rizvi won the consolation bracket of the "A" flight with an 8-5 victory over San Droop of Navy on Sunday, while Magday lost the "C" flight final to Blakely, 6-1, 6-1.
Also on Sunday, freshman Jocelle Rudico defeated Pitt's Jocelyn Lu 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-8 and fellow freshman Chloe Forlini saved three match points before defeating Amanda Wickman of Pitt, 7-6(2), 6-3, 15-13.
"What a great tournament this was for our team," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "This group is turning into a "special" team. They have that never die attitude when they compete. I have never had a team that won three matches in three days in which they were down at least two match points. That just shows what they are made of. In the doubles we played very disciplined the entire week. Since we don't play Navy in a regular dual match, it was great to get to play them individually and win eight of the nine matches."
The Falcons return home for the USAFA Invitational next weekend at the Academy. The three-day tournament starts on Friday, Sept, 27.
