Falcons Freshman Complete Day Two at CU Invitational

    Three Air Force freshmen completed day two at the Colorado Women's Tennis Invitational Saturday in Boulder, Colo. All three participated in the consolation draw and went 1-1 on the day.

    Tahlia Smoke won her first match in the top flight consolation bracket, defeating Manuela Santos of Northern Colorado, 6-4, 6-4. Smoke then lost to Santos' teammate, Tabitha Knop, 6-1, 6-2.

    In the second singles flight, Allie Chermel downed Hannah LaForest of UNC, 6-3, 6-3 before falling to the Bears' Jodi Ciarvella, 8-2. Megumi Voight rounded out the Falcons' play on Saturday in the third flight, rallying from a set down to defeat Madie Kern of Colorado, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Voight then lost to Katie Blow of Virginia Tech, 7-6(6), 6-1.

    In doubles action, Smoke and Chermel had an impressive outing, defeating Mountain West Conference rivals Brittany DeFelice and Jamie Nelson of Wyoming, 8-1.

    The tournament concludes on Sunday, Sept. 21.
