Christine Molina Wins Flight at C of C Invite
Sept. 18, 2011
The Air Force women's tennis team wrapped up play at its first tournament of the 2011-12 season Sunday at the College of Charleston Invite in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Junior Christine Molina completed her impressive run through the B1 singles flight, winning the title with a 6-0, 6-0 rout over Olivia McMillan of College of Charleston in the finals. "It was great to see Christine Molina win her flight," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "She played better every match, but to win in the finals against the host school without losing a game showed how well she was playing." Freshman Natasha Rizvi placed second in the B2 singles flight with a 6-3, 6-0 win Sunday over Anne Marie Lyon of Samford. In doubles action, Rizvi and senior Megumi Voight finished third in the B1 flight after rallying from a 5-1 deficit to beat McMillan and Grace Baker of College of Charleston, 9-7. Meanwhile, Molina and sophomore Tasha Hueffner won third place in the A3 flight, while senior Tahlia Smoke and junior Melissa Cecil (A1 flight) and junior Hannah Dake and freshman Tiffany Tran (A2 flight) each won the back draw. "This was a great first tournament of the year," said Gidley. "Everyone came away with several wins against very tough competition."
