Air Force Wraps Up Minnesota Invitational
Sept. 14, 2008
The Air Force women's tennis team wrapped up the Gopher Invitational Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn. The Falcons posted two tremendous comebacks on the final day of the tournament as sophomore Sarah Cassman rallied from a 6-2, 5-0 deficit and saved four match points before winning, while fellow sophomores Christen Monreal and Katrina Eromin saved a match point and won their doubles match in a tiebreaker. Cassman pulled out her improbable victory over Peta Forsyth of Minnesota in the third-place match of her flight. After saving the four match points, Cassman won the match, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3. Monreal and Eromin, meanwhile, defeated Tessa Lang and Alyssa Palen of Iowa State, 9-8. Senior Christine Abayan dropped a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10 to Marie-Christine Chartier of Iowa State in the consolation final of her flight, while three other Falcons, Monreal, Eromin and freshman Tahlia Smoke also lost in third-set tiebreakers. The Falcons will split their squad next week, with some heading to Boulder, Colo., for the CU Invitational and others to Provo, Utah for the BYU Invitational.
