Falcons Fall to Colorado State, 6-1, in Regular Season Finale

The Air Force women's tennis team wrapped up its 2009 regular season Saturday evening with a 6-1 loss to Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. With the defeat, the Falcons finished the season with a 10-16 overall record and an 0-8 mark in the Mountain West Conference. Air Force will be the No. 9 seed at the MWC Championships next week in Albuquerque, N.M., and will play the loser of Sunday's Colorado State-Wyoming match in the first round on Wednesday, April 22. In doubles, the Rams won two out of the three positions, and entered singles play with a 1-0 advantage. At No. 1, Lauren Strasburger and Laura Neal earned a victory against senior Christine Abayan and junior Erlyn Rudico, 8-4. Tori Arneson and Caitlin Fluegge, playing at No. 2, defeated sophomores Katrina Eromin and Sarah Cassman, 8-3. At No. 3, sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Allie Chermel posted an 8-6 victory over Greer Satherlie and Kirsten Stople. In singles, Strasburger earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Abayan at the No. 2 spot, followed by Satherlie beating Cassman, 7-6 (3), 6-0 at No. 4. At No. 1, Neal defeated Monreal, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the team match. Eromin captured Air Force's lone singles win of the evening, rallying from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to win 11 straight games to beat Stople, 7-5, 6-0.
