Falcons Lose to TCU, 7-0, in Home Finale

The TCU women's tennis team defeated Air Force, 7-0, Sunday at the Academy in the Falcons' regular-season home finale. With the victory, the Horned Frogs improved to 10-10 overall and 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Falcons fell to 15-9 and 1-5 in league play. The Frogs took a 1-0 lead with a sweep of the three doubles matches. The best match was at the top spot, where Katarina Tuohimaa and Maria Babanova edged Falcon junior Tahlia Smoke and sophomore Melissa Cecil, 9-8. The TCU duo won the tiebreaker 7-1. TCU kept the momentum in singles, winning all six contests, five of them in straight sets. Olivia Smith started things off with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Cecil at No.2, followed by Gaby Mastromarino posting a 6-2, 7-5 victory over senior Sarah Cassman at No. 3. Tuohimaa clinched the team match with a win at the No. 1 spot over senior Christen Monreal, 6-3, 6-4. The best singles match came at the No. 4 spot as TCU's Shalani Sahoo and AFA sophomore Hannah Dake went the distance. Sahoo won the first set, 7-6, while Dake took the second, 6-4. Sahoo prevailed in the super tiebreaker, 10-6. Federica Denti downed freshman Anastasia Hueffner, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 and Babanova completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over junior Megumi Voight. The Falcons return to action next Saturday, April 23 when they play Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. TCU 7, Air Force 0 Singles
