Falcons Fall to No. 51 UNLV, 7-0

    The 51st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team defeated Air Force, 7-0, Sunday in San Diego, Calif. The Lady Rebels improved to 14-8 overall and finished 6-2 in MWC action, while Air Force fell to 5-19 overall and 0-7 in conference play. It was the seventh match this season against a nationall ranked team for the Falcons.

    UNLV began the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. The 48th-ranked duo of Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva defeated Christine Abayan and Erlyn Rudico, 8-3, at the top sport. Also winning was Anna Maskaljun and Katy Williams over Samantha Sarkis and Katrina Eromin, 8-2, at No. 2 and Alisa Razina and Sharon Marin over Lauren Wilson and Christen Monreal, 8-0, on court three.

    UNLV did not lose a set in singles play. Gantcheva downed Abayan 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the lineup, while Nikol Dimitrova moved up to the No. 2 position and won, 6-4, 6-3 over Wilson. Maskaljun posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sarkis at No. 3, while Katy Williams downed Eromin 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Marin breezed by Monreal 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Adrienn Hidvegi won 6-3, 6-2 over Cassman on court six.

    The Falcons close out the regular season next Saturday, April 19 against in-state rival Colorado State beginning at 10 a.m. at the Academy.
