Falcons Fall to SDSU, 7-0

The San Diego State women's tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak and picked up its first Mountain West Conference victory with a convincing 7-0 sweep over Air Force at Aztec Tennis Center Friday afternoon. SDSU improved to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the MWC, while the Falcons fell to 5-18 overall and 0-6 in league play.
SDSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Kathryn Kitts and Esther Cadua made quick work of Erika Shortridge and Samantha Sarkis in an 8-2 victory at No. 3. Eliska Krausova and Julia Trunk then clinched the point for the Aztecs as they defeated Christine Abayan and Erlyn Rudico by an identical score at the top of the ladder.
SDSU carried its momentum into singles play, finishing the day without dropping a set. First off the courts was Trunk, who handed Wilson a 6-0, 6-1 loss at the No. 2 position. Krausova saw similar fortunes as she downed Sarkis by the same count. Cadua then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Katrina Eromin on court four.
Holly Bagshaw defeated Abayan, 6-0, 6-1, at the top spot, while Yusupov beat Monreal, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Nielsen defeated Sarah Cassman, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
Air Force will continue its Mountain West Conference weekend on Sunday, April 13 against UNLV, beginning at 10 a.m.
