Falcons Split a Pair of Matches to Complete Home Slate

The Air Force women's tennis team wrapped up its home schedule Sunday by splitting a pair of matches at the Academy. The Falcons lost to Mountain West Conference foe and 37th-ranked San Diego State, 4-1, then defeated CSU-Pueblo, 7-0. Air Force is now 10-13 overall and 0-4 in MWC play.
In the first match, SDSU took the double point with wins at the top two spots. Air Force's No. 3 duo of sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Allie Chermel defeated Kathryn Kitts and Olivia Colman, 8-4.
In singles play, sophomore Sarah Cassman won the No. 4 match, defeating Emma Cioffi 6-3, 7-6(4). SDSU won the top three singles matches all in straight sets and the Nos. 5 and 6 matches were then pulled off the court after the Aztecs clinched the team match.
Against CSU-Pueblo, the Falcons rolled to easy victories at all three doubles spots and won all six singles matches in straight sets. The most games AFA lost in one set was four, as Monreal defeated Julie Wainwright at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-0.
The Falcons continue MWC action next weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., facing TCU on Thursday, April 9 at 11 a.m. and New Mexico on Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
