No. 54 Utah Shuts Out Air Force, 7-0

    The Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to 54th-ranked Utah Friday afternoon at the Academy. With the victory, Utah improved to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Falcons fell to 5-17 and 0-5 in league play.

    Utah rolled through all nine matches Friday, taking all three doubles matches, then winning all six singles contests in straight sets.

    Elizabeth Ferris and Emily Kwok led things off for the Utes at No. 1 doubles, downing AFA junior Christine Abayan and sophomore Erlyn Rudico, 8-4. Leigh Walsh and Evgenia Kryuchkova won at No. 2, 8-3, over senior Erika Shortridge and junior Meghan Kiser, while Andrea Maughan and Erin Monson defeated freshmen Samantha Sarkis and Christen Monreal, 8-5.

    In singles play, Ferris won a convincing, 6-0, 6-1 decision over Abayan at the No. 1 spot, while Kryuchkova defeated Lauren Wilson, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. The Utes capped off the match when Kwok beat Kiser, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

    The Falcons take to the road next weekend in San Diego, Calif. They will play San Diego State on Friday, April 11 at 3 p.m. (CT).
