No. 46 UNLV Downs Falcons, 5-2

The Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 46th-ranked UNLV Friday afternoon at the Academy. Senior Christine Abayan and sophomore Katrina Eromin posted singles wins for the Falcons, who fell to 9-12 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV improved to 13-6 overall and stayed perfect in league play at 4-0. The Rebels took a 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches, including a pair of matches that went to a tiebreaker. Kristine Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams won at the top spot, defeating Eromin and junior Erlyn Rudico, 8-2. Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun beat Abayan and sophomore Sarah Cassman, 9-8(6), at No. 2, while Nikol Dimitrova and Rumyana Terzieva snuck past sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Allie Chermel, 9-8(4), at the No. 3 position. In singles play, Nedeltcheva, the reigning MWC Player of the Week, won the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-1, over Monreal. Abayan won her second consecutive match at No. 2 for Air Force, handling Dimitrova, 6-2, 6-2, then Williams defeated Chermel, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3. Adrienn Hidvegi won the No. 4 match over Cassman, 6-3, 7-6(3), while Eromin won the only three-set match, defeating Maskaljun, 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) at No. 5. Terzieva finalized the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over freshman Shelly Johnson at the No. 6 spot. Air Force takes a day off before hosting two matches on Sunday, playing San Diego State at 8 a.m. and CSU-Pueblo at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played on the Academy's indoor courts inside the Cadet Gymansium.
