BYU Blanks Air Force, 4-0

The Air Force women's tennis team fell to 10-10 overall and 0-4 in the Mountain West Conference Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 27 BYU in Fort Collins, Colo. The Cougars improved to 13-5 and 3-0 in league play. BYU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The nation's No. 47 team of Anastasia Surkova and Jennifer Miccoli won the No. 1 match over senior Kelly Morgan and sophomore Christine Abayan, 8-2. The Cougars' Nos. 2 and 3 teams followed suit, winning 8-2 and 8-3, respectively. Surkova blanked junior Lauren Wilson, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles spot, while Lauren Jones downed Abayan, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Chie Hayasaka clinched the match for BYU with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over sophomore Meghan Kiser at the No. 3 position. At that time, the No. 4 match between Morgan and Kristina Doerr was halted with Morgan leading 7-5, 3-5. The Nos. 5 and 6 matches were not played.
