The Air Force women’s tennis team blanked Weber State 7-0 Thursday at the Ogden Athletic Club in Ogden, Utah. The Falcons won all nine matches and improved to 8-5 this spring. The Wildcats fell to 6-10.
Air Force won all three doubles matches to win the first point, including a comeback win at the No. 2 spot by junior Tiffany Tran and freshman Lily Forlini. The Falcon duo saved a match point and defeated Thais Kurer and Nittaya Phonharath, 8-7(6). Junior Natasha Rizvi and sophomore Mary Meyers won 8-3 at the No. 1 position while senior Anastasia Hueffner and junior Marcelli Magday won 8-6 at No. 3.
The Falcons kept the momentum through the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets. Tran led the way by avenging a loss to Agata Bachanek during the fall tournament season with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the top spot. Meyers downed Kristi Elmer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 while Rizvi won her sixth straight match with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Ashley Tanner.
Magday (No. 4), Forlini (No. 5) and freshman Tracy Landram (No. 6) also won handily on Thursday.
This was a very good road win for the team today,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. “Everyone played focused and took care of business. I am excited about where the team is at this point in the season.”
The Falcons play their first Mountain West match of the season on Friday, March 28 at Utah State beginning at 10 a.m.
