Air Force Falls to No. 54 UNLV, Beats Southern Utah

The Air Force women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday, falling to 54th-ranked UNLV, 7-0, before defeating Southern Utah by the same score. With the split, the Falcons are 10-9 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain West Conference this season. UNLV began the day by taking three doubles matches for one team point. The top Lady Rebel team, 35th-ranked Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva, led off the matches with an 8-1 victory over senior Kelly Morgan and sophomore Christine Abayan. In singles play, Gantcheva raced past Lauren Wilson 6-3, 6-2 at the top spot. UNLV also won the other five singles matches in straight sets. In the afternoon match, Air Force swept all nine matches, including an exciting, 8-7 victory at No. 1 doubles by Wilson and Morgan at the top doubles spot. The Falcons then won all six singles matches in straight sets. The best match was at the No. 3 spot, where sophomore Meghan Kiser beat Shanna Docherty, 7-6, 6-4. The Falcons continue MWC action next weekend with matches against BYU, Utah and Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. #54 UNLV 7, AIR FORCE 0 SINGLES:
