Falcons Down CSU, 6-1, in Mountain West Opener

The Air Force women’s tennis team defeated Colorado State, 6-1, Saturday in Fort Collins, Colo., in the Mountain West opener for each team. The Falcons, winners of six straight matches, improved to 10-4 this season while the Rams fell to 1-7. The Falcons opened the match by the top two doubles matches. Seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake got things rolling with an 8-5 victory over Kendall Heitzner and Kaley Schultz at the No. 1 spot. Senior Christine Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi clinched the point with an 8-5 triumph over Abby Stevens and Mollie Cooper at the No. 2 position. In singles action, the Falcons won the top five matches, including four in straight sets. Dake got things rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Schultz at the No. 3 position, followed by Rizvi defeating Heitzner, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Molina clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-6 decision over Natalie Heffron at the top spot. Tran rallied to defeat Stevens, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 position, while Cecil downed Cooper, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. The Falcons return to action on Sunday, March 10 against Northern Colorado at the Academy, beginning at 4 p.m. Air Force 6, Colorado State 1 Doubles Singles
