Falcons Fall to Drake, 4-3

The Air Force women's tennis team lost its second straight match in Iowa Sunday, falling to Drake University, 4-3, in Des Moines. Drake improved to 6-4 while the Falcons fell to 12-4. The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead with wins at all three doubles spots. Junior Tahlia Smoke and sophomore Melissa Cecil started things off with an 8-2 win over Jessica Aguilera and Manca Krizman at the No. 1 spot. Senior Christen Monreal and freshman Anastasia Hueffner followed suit at No. 2 by defeating Klavdija Rebol and Earlynn Lauer, 8-6, while senior Sarah Cassman and sophomore Hannah Dake defeated Amanda Aragon and Jessica Labarte, 8-5, at No. 3. Drake took a 2-1 lead with wins at the top two singles spots. Krizman topped Monreal, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Rebol downed Smoke, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. The Falcons retook the lead when Dake beat Aragon, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Cassman handled Labarte, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Aguilera tied the match at 3-all with the only three-setter, a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win over Cecil at No. 3, then Ali Patterson clinched the match for Drake with a 6-2, 7-6(3) triumph over Hueffner at No. 6. The Falcons return to action on Saturday, March 19 against CSU-Pueblo and Metro State.
