Air Force Beats Weber State, Mesa State

The Air Force women's tennis team won a pair of matches Saturday at the Academy. The Falcons defeated Weber State, 6-1, and Division II Mesa State, 7-0, to improve to 7-6 this season.
The Falcons opened their match against Weber State by winning two of three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead. Senior Karissa Walker and junior Lauren Wilson won the No. 2 match, 8-3, over Gabi Venditto and Greyce Farias, while sophomore Meghan Kiser and freshman Erlyn Rudico downed Ashley Schapper and Elsje Beneke, 9-7, at the No. 3 spot.
Air Force won five of the six singles matches, including an exciting three-setter at the No. 1 position. Wilson rallied from losing the first set, 7-6, to defeat Venditto, 7-6 in the second set, then 10-7 in a super-tiebreak. Sophomore Christine Abayan followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Schapper at No. 2. Senior Kelly Morgan (No. 3) and Kiser (No. 4) also won in straight sets, while junior Erika Shortridge won the No. 6 match, 8-4, over Kate Ennenga.
Air Force rolled past Mesa State in the evening match, sweeping the three doubles matches and winning all six singles contest in straight sets.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, March 12, against the 10th-ranked team in the country, William & Mary. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Academy.
