Falcons Shut Out by Nebraska, 7-0

The Air Force women's tennis team lost its fourth straight match Friday, falling 7-0 to undefeated Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. With the victory, Nebraska moved to 10-0 while the Falcons fell to 3-10 this season. The Huskers opened the match with wins at all three doubles positions. Imke Reimers and Jana Albers defeated juniors Christine Abayan and Meghan Kiser, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Maria Ring and Wiveca Swarting won the No. 2 match with an 8-3 victory over senior Lauren Wilson and sophomore Erlyn Rudico, while Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans defeated senior Erika Shortridge and freshman Samantha Sarkis, 8-5, at No. 3. Nebraska widened its lead to 3-0 after Reimers and Swarting finished their matches nearly simultaneously at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Reimers earned her third 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the year over Abayan, while Swarting nearly missed her fourth sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Wilson. Albers clinched the match for Nebraska shortly after with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kiser at No. 3 singles. Freshmen Abby Buxton, Chandronnait and Evans each earned wins at the bottom of the Husker lineup. Falcon freshman Christen Monreal was the only Air Force player to win a set Friday, extending Evans to a 7-6, 5-7, (10-4) decision at No. 5 singles. The Falcons take on Northern Iowa and Division II Nebraska-Kearney in Lincoln on Saturday. Nebraska 7, Air Force 0 Singles
