Air Force Shut Out by No. 53 Texas Tech, 7-0

The Air Force women's tennis team dropped its second straight match in Texas Sunday, losing 7-0 to 53rd-ranked Texas Tech at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock. The falcons fell to 5-6 this season.
Tech's doubles came out strong as all three took wins over the Falcons. The No. 1 duo of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift improved to 7-1 as they defeated AFA sophomore Christine Abayan and senior Kelly Morgan, 8-3. Lakann Wagley and Brenna Jackson captured the doubles point for the Red Raiders, defeating senior Karissa Walker and junior Lauren Wilson, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot.
Singles continued to favor the Red Raiders as they captured all six positions. Durham and van der Drift eased their way past the Falcons at the Nos. 3 and 1 spots, respectively, and Anne Sophie Fankam secured the match for her team with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 over Walker.
Tech's Kerryn Potgieter and Maria Jose Andres also notched singles wins, while Wagley and Abayan played the best singles match at No. 2 Wagley rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, (10-2) victory.
Air Force wraps up its string of nine consecutive road matches with three in Greeley, Colo., next weekend. The Falcons play Weber State (9 a.m.) and Mesa State (3 p.m.) on Saturday, March 3, then Northern Colorado on Sunday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
