SAN ANTONIO, TX – After nine hours of rain delays, Air Force blanked Incarnate word in doubles action and picked up three straight-set wins in singles to post a 4-0 victory over the Cardinals in non-conference action under the lights. The Falcons improve to 7-2 on the season.
Against a much improved Incarnate Word team, the Falcons dominated the doubles winning the point 6-0 at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. TJ Fumagalli and Elizabeth Barnickel remain undefeated (6-0) while playing at the No. 1 position.
Playing only on two courts, the Falcons closed out the top three positions without dropping a set to clinch the match, 4-0. Fumagalli topped Zemenik, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 1 position, while Barnickel defeated Dordan, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 2 postion. Meredith Laskey put the final touches on the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0, win over Landaluce.
“To wait all day and then play that well on the road was impressive,” said head coach Kim Gidley. “This young team is talented and loves to play tennis, it was a great team effort under some adverse conditions. I am so proud of this team.”
The Falcons continue action tomorrow against Trinity University at 1 p.m. CT. Prior to Saturday’s match, Air Force will pair up with Trinity to host a free youth clinic at the Butch Newman Courts. The clinic is open to all willing participants ages 13 and under. Games, prizes and pizza will be offered at the clinic. The clinic is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start at the Butch Newman Courts of Trinity Campus.
