Women’s Tennis Come up Short at No. 20 Florida State
Feb. 17, 2018

TALLAHASSE, Fla. -- Air Force came up short, 7-0, in Saturday’s non-conference matchup against the 20th-ranked Florida State Seminoles, at the fourth-annual Scott Speicher Military Appreciation weekend, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the Florida State campus. The Falcons drop to 5-2 on the season.

“Florida State is good— no if, ands, or buts about it,” explained head coach Kim Gidley. “This match showed our team what it takes to be the top in this country at the Division I level.  We are going to learn and grow from this match and be better because of it.”

The Seminoles secured the match point in doubles with wins in the second and third positions.  The TJ Fumagalli and Elizabeth Barnickel powerhouse duo were unable to finish their match as the second and third positions closed out.  Fumagalli and Barnickel remain undefeated at the No. 1 doubles position.

The Falcons dropped all six singles positions in hard fought battles against the talented Florida State team.

“It was a great opportunity to compete against the caliber of an opponent like Florida State,” said Gidley. “The entire match was a first class event and we were honored to be a part of the dedication to Captain Scott Speicher, with his family in attendance.”

“Florida State respects and appreciates the military and it was a special event,” continued Gidley.  “We have been honored to compete against Florida State, three of the past four years for their military appreciation match.”

The Falcons continue action at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (ET), against the Florida A&M Rattlers.
