Falcons Sweep Pair of Home Matches

The Air Force women's tennis team evened its record at 5-5 Friday with a pair of victories at the Academy. The Falcons opened the day with an impressive 5-2 victory over Montana, then defeated Metro State, 7-0. In the first match, Air Force won the doubles point for the third consecutive match. The Falcons captured wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. Junior Erlyn Rudico and sophomore Katrina Eromin won at the top spot, 8-6, over Liz Walker and Martyna Nowak, while sophomore Christen Monreal and freshman Allie Chermel won their fourth consecutive match, downing Kayla Moyse and Lauren Gibson, 8-1, at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match was a thriller, as Montana's duo of Amanda and Rebecca Bran pulled out a 9-8 win over senior Christine Abayan and Sarah Cassman, winning the tiebreaker 11-9. Air Force kept the momentum in singles play, winning four of the six matches, all in straight sets. Monreal defeated Amanda Bran, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, while Chermel won at No. 3 singles, beating Nowak, 6-4, 6-1. Eromin clinched the team match with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Moyse at No. 5 and freshman Shannon Young picked up her second career dual match win by defeating Gibson, 7-6, 6-0 at the No. 6 position. In the nightcap, Air Force dominated the three doubles matches, including an 8-5 victory by Rudico and Eromin at the No. 1 spot over Amanda Bowling and Mitra Hirad. The Falcons also cruised in singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. The No. 6 match went three sets before freshman Shelley Johnson defeated Alexis Alverez.
