The Air Force women's tennis team won a pair of matches Saturday at the Academy. The Falcons, who have won seven consecutive matches and improved to 7-2 this spring, downed Wofford, 5-2, and South Dakota, 7-0.
Air Force's top four singles players, senior Christen Monreal (No. 1), sophomore Melissa Cecil (No. 2), junior Tahlia Smoke (No. 3) and senior Sarah Cassman (No. 4) each won both of her singles matches on Saturday. Monreal, who saved a couple of set points in her 7-6(6), 6-4 victory over Emilia Milovanovic of Wofford, Cecil and Smoke won both in straight sets, while Cassman defeated Sarah Evans of Wofford, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
Cecil and Smoke combined to win both of their No. 1 doubles matches and are now 7-1 this spring at the top spot. Cassman and sophomore Hannah Dake won both the No. 3 doubles matches.
"Our team had another great day," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "We really served well against Wofford and Christen (Monreal) really set the tone for the day by saving some set points and battling back from 5-2 down in the tiebreaker. It was great to see our seniors play really well today, they have worked so hard for this team."
