Air Force Falls to Wyoming, 6-1, in MWC Opener

The Air Force women's tennis team opened its 2007 Mountain West Conference schedule Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. The Falcons, who had a four-match winning streak snapped, fell to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. Junior Lauren Wilson captured the only individual victory for Air Force, winning the No. 3 singles match, 6-3, 6-2, over Wyoming's Karolina Rowinski. Wilson paired with senior Karissa Walker at No. 2 doubles, but the pair fell to Sarah Summerfield and Corina Lazar, 8-3. Wyoming also won a the Nos. 1 and 3 spots to claim the doubles point. Three of the singles matches were extended to three sets, including the No. 1 match, where Summerfield rallied to defeat Falcon sophomore Christine Abayan, the reigning MWC player of the week, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Michelle Brown downed sophomore Meghan Kiser, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot, while Amy Senko beat senior Kelly Morgan, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5. The Cowgirls won the Nos. 2 and 6 matches in straight sets. Air Force is idle for two weeks until its annual Gideon Cup match with service-academy rival Army on Saturday, Feb. 17 at West Point, NY. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (ET).
