The Air Force women’s tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-1 decision to the University of Colorado Saturday morning at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center in Boulder, Colo. The Buffaloes won both doubles matches and three of the four singles matches that finished.

CU’s No. 3 doubles team of Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel defeated freshmen Lily and Chloe Forlini, 6-1, while the No. 1 team of Winde Janssens and Nuria Ormeno Ruiz downed juniors Marcelli Magday and Natasha Rizvi, 6-3, to capture the doubles point. AFA’s No. 2 team of junior Tiffany Tran and freshman Tracy Landram were leading 5-1 when the match was pulled.

Colorado took a 2-0 lead when Alex Aiello beat sophomore Mary Meyers, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, then Rizvi pulled Air Force within one with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Janssens at No. 3. Steur downed Tran at the top spot, 6-1, 6-4 and Ormeno Ruiz clinched the match for the Buffs by defeating Magday, 6-0, 7-6(2) at No. 4.

This was another close match for us,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. “Natasha Rizvi played a great singles match and helped give us some momentum heading into the final matches.”
