The Air Force women’s tennis team suffered its second consecutive 4-3 loss, this time to Cal State Northridge Sunday in Northridge, Calif. The Matadors swept the three doubles matches and won the top three singles matches to improve to 2-0 this season. Air Force, meanwhile, fell to 7-2.

After falling behind 3-0 after the doubles session and the first two singles matches off the court, Air Force cut the lead to 3-2 with two straight singles wins. Freshman Tracy Landram started the comeback with a 7-5, 7-6(2) victory over Kristen Poei at the No. 6 slot, then junior Marcelli Magday rallied to beat Jessica Warren, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.

CSUN clinched the match when Vivian Lin defeated junior Tiffany Tran 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) at the No. 1 position. Freshman Lily Forlini won the last match off for Air Force, defeating Lorraine Cheung 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5.

“For the second match in a row, we needed to win the last four matches on the court to win the match,” said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. “We came to California seeking some great matches and that is what we got. It was an amazing weekend of tennis for us.”
