Falcons Down Louisiana 6-1

The Air Force women's tennis team won its 2013 spring opener Saturday, defeating Louisiana 6-1 at the Academy. The Falcons rallied after losing the doubles point to win all six singles contests and improve to 3-0 this season. Meanwhile, Louisiana dropped to 0-2. The Ragin' Cajuns took a 1-0 lead by winning the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles matches. Their No. 3 team of Juliette Clement and Melissa Burkhartt were the first off the court after defeating junior Anastasia Hueffner and sophomore Marcelli Magday, 8-3. UL clinched the point as the No. 1 duo of Nicole Breaux and Bailey VanDyke defeated seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake, 8-7(4). The Falcons won the No. 2 match as senior Christine Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi won 8-7(4). Molina led the resurgence by Air Force with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sophie van den Aarsen at the No. 1 singles spot. Rizvi and Dake followed suit with straight sets wins at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively. Freshman Mary Meyers clinched the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Bailey VanDyke at No. 4. Cecil won the No. 5 match, 6-2, 7-5 over Burckhartt and Hueffner closed out the match with a three-set victory over Hannah Appleyard, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0(7). The Falcons host the University of Colorado on Sunday, Jan. 27 beginning at 3 p.m.
