The Air Force women's tennis team opened its 2007 spring season Tuesday with a 7-0 loss to the University of Colorado at the Academy. The Buffaloes swept all three doubles matches, then took all six singles matches, five of them in straight sets.

CU's No. 1 doubles team of Camila Belassi and Gleisy Torres Torres got things rolling, downing Air Force sophomores Christine Abayan and Meghan Kiser, 8-1. The Buffs took the No. 2 match, 8-2, and the No. 3 match, 8-3, after dropping the first three games.

Monica Milewski, the 36th-ranked player in the country, won the No. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-3, over Abayan, while Belassi defeated junior Lauren Wilson, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. The best match of the day was at the No. 4 spot, where Franziska Jendrian rallied to beat senior Karissa Walker, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(8).

"I was extremely impressed with Karissa Walker today," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "She was playing in her first match after being away from the team for a year. It was one of the best matches I have ever seen and could have gone either way."

The Falcons are back in action with a pair of matches on Friday, Jan. 26 at the Academy against South Dakota State at 8 a.m. and Eastern Washington at 3 p.m.
