Air Force’s Knaute and Leake Sweep MWC Swimmer of the Week Honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force's Chris Knaute and Blair Leake were named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, respectively. It marks the first weekly honor for Leake and the fourth for Knaute.
Knaute, a junior from Houston, Texas, helped lead the Falcons to a second-place finish at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif., last weekend. He finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:30.42, shaving 51 seconds off his previous season-best time and marking the fastest 1,650 free time in the conference by 30 seconds. He placed third in the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 3:54.84 and placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 4:27.89. All three of his wins at the Speedo Cup are the fastest times in the MWC this year. Leake, a junior from Springfield, Mo., was the top Falcon swimmer in the breaststroke events helping lead Air Force to a sixth-place finish at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, Calif., last weekend. She finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke, setting a school record with a time of 2:19.50 to eclipse the previous mark of 2:19.91, set by Krista Steenbergen in 1995. She placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming the second-fastest time in Academy history with a time of 1:05.21. Her time in the 200 breast is the fastest in the MWC this season, while her 100 breast time is the second fastest. --30--
