Air Force Swimmers Dominate Colorado College, 145-83
U.S.A.F ACADEMY, Colo. (Nov. 17) -- The Air Force Academy women's swim team improved its 2000-01 season record to 7-3 Friday by defeating cross-town rival Colorado College, 145-83, at the Academy's Cadet Natatorium. Air Force sophomore Sarah Law, the reigning Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week, continued her outstanding season by winning the 1- and 3-meter diving events with scores of 271.88 and 260.25, respectively. AFA freshman Katie Stapp placed second in both events. Falcon swimmers captured nine of the 11 races, and placed first and second in five of them. Junior Christine Cleaver led a 1-2-3 sweep for Air Force in the 100-yard backstroke, recording the second-best time of any Falcon this season, 1 minute, 2.9 seconds. AFA sophomore Ellen Stimmel won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:40.71, and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle behind teammate Alexis Ross, who won the race in 2:02.19. Lauren Seltzer won the 100-yard freestyle race for Colorado College, recording a time of 56.20 for the Tigers' only individual victory. CC also won the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Falcons are back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 18 when they host Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State at 6 p.m.
