Falcons head to Houston for Phill Hansel Invite

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force women’s swimming and diving team travels to Houston, Texas, for the 10th annual Phill Hansel Invitational, Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 16-18. The events begin at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday. The tournament field includes Air Force, Colorado State, Idaho, New Mexico, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Rice, Tulane, and Vanderbilt.

Several Falcons rank among the top swimmers in the Mountain West Conference. Sophomore Lydia Knutson is sixth in 50 free (23.68). Knutson set the school record last season (22.65). Senior Jinan Andrews is seventh in 100 free (51.97). Sophomore Jayden Glover is fifth in the 1650 free (17:31.81). Sophomore Heidi Schellin ranks 15th  in the 200 breast (2:24.35).

Three freshmen have the cracked the top 15 in the MW. Jessica Wierzbicki is 10th in the 100 fly (56.77) and is ninth in the 200 fly (2:06.38). Kylie Stronko is 11th  in the 100 back (57.41) and is 15th in the 200 back (2:05.54). Mollie Bushelman is 11th in the 100 breast stroke (1:05.36).


 

 

Three Falcons rank in the top 15 in the 400 IM as freshman Lexie Duchene is 13th (4:34.88), Schellin is 14th (4:34.97) and Emma Strom is 15th (4:35.75).

The 200 free relay team of Andrews, Winnie Chen, Elise Hart and Knutson rank second in the conference at 1:35.44.

Following the Phill Hansel Invitational, the Falcons (5-6 in duals) are off until dual meets against San Diego State and Cal Poly on Dec. 22.
