Falcon Swimmers Head to UCI/Nike Cup

    The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action this week, Nov. 15-17, at the UCI/Nike Cup, being held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. each day with finals starting at 6:00 p.m. for both men and women.

    About the Nike Cup...
    The UCI/Nike Cup, formerly known as the Speedo Cup, will feature 23 women's teams and 17 men's teams. The women's field includes Air Force, BYU, New Mexico, Pacific, Rice, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego. The men's field includes Air Force, BYU, Cal State Northridge, Pacific, Stanford, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego. The meet will be scored to 24 places in each event.

    Scouting the Falcon Women...
    The Air Force women's swimming and diving team last competed on Nov. 2, when it dropped a 127-102 decision to TCU.

    Leading the Falcons against the Frogs was junior Jane Hwang, who captured first place in the 200 IM, while senior Danielle Dowds took first place in the 1-meter dive. Hwang currently ranks seventh in the MWC in the 200 IM and ninth in the 200 free.

    Scouting the Falcon Men...
    The Air Force men's swimming and diving team was last in action Nov. 2-3, falling to TCU and SMU in dual meets.

    Sophomore Sean O'Keefe led Air Force with three wins on the weekend, while juniors Bryan Avery and Kai Yamashiro notched wins as well. O'Keefe and Tom Hansen rank third and fourth, respectively, in the conference in the 1650 free, while Justin Day owns the fourth-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke.



    Up Next...
    The Air Force women's swimming and diving team is back in action on Dec. 7 with a dual meet versus Northern Colorado. Meanwhile, the men are off until Jan. 4, when they compete in the UC San Diego Relays.
