Air Force Swimming & Diving Hosts TCU And New Mexico State
Nov. 7, 2006 USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force men's and women's swimming & diving teams compete against TCU for a Mountain West Conference dual Thursday evening, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Cadet Natatiorium. The women's team also takes on New Mexico State as part of a double-dual. Admission is free for all Air Force swimming & diving events. Last Time Out: The men's team had a solid weekend at the Lincoln Aquatics Shootout, going 5-1 in head-to-head match-ups. The Falcons are now 9-1 on the season. The Falcons defeated UC Davis, Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge on Friday and downed UC Davis, UC Irvine and lost to Hawai'i on Saturday. Senior Chris Knaute led the way, winning the 200 free, 500 free, 1650 free and the 400 IM. The Air Force women's team (3-3) last competed on Oct. 28 in a triple-dual against Colorado State, New Mexico and San Diego State. The Falcons dropped all three head-to-head matchups. The Falcons also swam in a triple-dual on Friday, Oct. 27, defeating Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines and Metro State. Senior Lauren White and sophomore Jan Hwang led the way at the CSU-UNM-SDSU meet, as White won the 500 free and Hwang won the 200 IM. The Air Force diving team also participated at the Trojan Invite in Los Angeles over the weekend. Senior Brady Lindbery and junior Danielle Dowds paced the men's and women's teams with third place finishes in the platform diving. Knaute Named MWC Swimmer of the Week: Senior Chris Knaute was named Mountain West Confence Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 31. Knaute opened the Falcon's season by winning the 100, 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events to lead Air Force to a quad-dual sweep of Colorado college, Colorado School of Mines, Metro State and host Denver. The Houston, Texas, native won the 1,000 freestyle by more than 37 seconds with a 9:26.93 clocking. He then went on to win the 100 freestyle in 46.03 and the 500 freestyle in 4:37.81. This is Knaute's fifth MWC Swimmer of the Week honors in his career. Last Time vs. TCU: Last year, the Falcon men's team held off TCU in a wild meet, winning 121-120 in Fort Worth, Texas. The women lost to the Horned Frogs, 143-91. Last Time vs. NMSU: The Falcons opened the 2005-06 season at the Sun Belt Classic, hosted by New Mexico State last year, going 6-2. The Falcons defeated NMSU twice in the quad-dual in Las Cruces, N.M. Up Next: The Falcons participate in the Speedo Cup, held Nov. 16-18 at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif. The diving team will be participating at the Minnesota Diving Invitational, Nov. 17-18, in Minneapolis, Minn.
